چکیده
Executive Summary The electrodiagnostic medicine (EDX) evaluation is an important and useful extension of the clinical evaluation of patients with disorders of the peripheral and/or central nervous system. EDX tests are often crucial to evaluating symptoms, arriving at a proper diagnosis, and in following a disease process and its response to treatment in patients with neuromuscular (NM) disorders. Unfortunately, EDX studies are poorly understood by many in the medical and lay communities. Even more unfortunately, these studies have occasionally been abused by some providers, resulting in overutilization and inappropriate consumption of scarce health resources. The American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine (AANEM) has developed this model policy to improve the quality of patient care, to encourage appropriate utilization of the procedures involved, and to assist public and private insurance carriers in developing policy regarding EDX testing. This document contains recommendations which can be used in developing and revising current reimbursement guidelines.

متن کاملType 2 Superior Labral Anterior to Posterior Lesion-Related Paralabral Cyst Causing Isolated Infraspinatus Paralysis: Two Case Reports.
Type 2 superior labral anterior to posterior (SLAP) lesion is a common cause of shoulder pain requiring surgical operation. SLAP tears are often associated with paralabral cysts, but they rarely cause nerve compression. However, we experienced two cases of type 2 SLAP-related paralabral cysts at the spinoglenoid notch which were confirmed as isolated nerve entrapment of the infraspinatus branch...
متن کاملAAEM position statements. Billing for same day evaluation and management and electrodiagnostic testing.
The American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine (AANEM) is concerned about an emerging pattern among some payors to deny reimbursement of evaluation and management (E/M) codes to physicians who also bill an electrodiagnostic medicine code (e.g., 95886, 95900) on the same day. This practice is not appropriate. There are many patient-physician interactions that clearly requ...
متن کاملCurrent status on electrodiagnostic standards and guidelines in neuromuscular disorders.
The aim of this review is to present the status of electrodiagnostic standards and guidelines in neuromuscular disorders. Electrodiagnostic guidelines are developed on the background of medical technology assessment, wherefore a short presentation of medical technology assessment is given covering: (1) Evidence-based medicine, i.e. "to do the right thing", describing practice parameters and the...
